What comes first? Buy a plan? Hire an architect? Buy Vacant Land?

Let our team guide you through the building process from start to finish. We will help you with these priorities and we always recommend working with a triad. This includes the customer with the vision, an architect or designer to bring the creative juices, and the builder to help with the entire process and keep the budget under control.

Buying vacant land?

An additional service we provide at no charge, is if you find a lot you like, we will look at it with you, review it for any potential concerns, and discuss infrastructure prior to the purchase. We are here to help you avoid any pitfalls BEFORE you buy!

What is Green Building?

Green building is an overall umbrella that encompasses the primary issue of energy efficiency, building well constructed and tightly sealed building envelopes, providing superior insulation systems, pursuing water conservation, durability and sustainability of the building, recycling of materials, selecting materials that are durable and environmentally wise, considering the solar orientation of a building, selecting materials that are sourced nearby to minimize transportation costs and many more factors.

How long does it take to build a new home?

Most homes are complete within approximately 6 months from the date of excavation. This is an average and some may take longer due to size…generally more than 4000 square feet or unusual weather conditions.

Does Fireside Home Construction do renovation work too?

Yes, we do all types of renovations, finished basements, updates, kitchens & baths, decks & patios, additions, out buildings and other types of structures as well as light commercial.

What companies and suppliers do you work with?

We have many sources that we have developed long working relationships with. We will assist you to find the appropriate resources for your project. All our partners are full insured, carry workmen’s compensation insurance, and must adhere to our strict high standards.

How long has Fireside Home Construction been in business?

We began construction in 1996.

Will building Green save me money?

Often times, yes. There may be initial costs that are at a premium but many systems can save you mone from day one of occupancy such as Geo Thermal Heating and Cooling systems. Many structure enhancements like insulation, etc. will save you money in operational costs and provide additional comfort. Generally a very well built home with Green properties may only add 3-5% to the cost. Items such as solar and wind renewable energy may add more.

What types of homes does Fireside Home Construction build?

We build all types of homes and renovation projects. All are based on the client’s needs in regards to style, size, design etc. We do traditional homes, Timber frame homes, all types of renovation work, and outbuildings. Just ask us for information on what you need!

Does Fireside Home Construction provide financing?

Not directly but we do work extensively with Ann Arbor State Bank and Chemical Bank to assist our customers. They are experts in the construction lending area and can serve your needs. Do your plans or projects comply with local building codes?

Yes, all of our work is up to current code regulations and we maintain an excellent relationship with the building code officials and inspectors.

How do we know how much it will cost for the project? Can we figure it on the cost per square foot?

After an initial consultation with Fireside Home Construction we can begin to determine a cost range based on your description of your needs and content desires. Final construction budgets are determined after designs are complete and a full list of the scope of work and detailed specifications are established. This results in a guaranteed fixed price for most customers. The cost per square foot can be deceiving and hard to compare as most houses are different and can vary widely in price based on design and content.

Where do the plans/designs come from?

Some are custom one of a kind designs based on your unique situation, some are stock plans from the internet or plan books and some are stock plans that we modify. We assist you to find the right one for you. We caution you not to purchase a stock plan on line, etc. without conferring with your builder first. Be careful taking someone else’s original plans and having the redrawn locally. Copyright laws apply and can be very expensive lessons if the laws are not followed.

Do you work with Architects or designers?

We work with both and have several sources to find the best design assistance for your needs.

If I want to build on a lot, how do we determine where and how to place the house?

We are happy to make a no cost visit to your site to consult with you on infrastructure, drainage, egress, solar orientation and home placement. There are many considerations and it would be our pleasure to consult with you on this.

How do we select materials and content for our project?

Fireside Home Construction has an extensive network of professionals and suppliers to assist us with this for your needs. We pride ourselves in selecting and budgeting for most all materials before we start the job. We assist you with these selections so you are not left on your own.
